Tonight Emilie and I drove to Cannobio, Italy, which is a small town on Lake Maggiore in Northern Italy.
The drive took about 3.5 hours from Lausanne, taking us through the Alps via the Col du Simplon, with a significant amount of time spent on the final approach to Cannobio (effectively a one-lane road through dense forest and undulating terrain).
We arrived around dusk, which allowed for a nice view of Cannobio’s lakefront as well as Lake Maggiore itself, with the Ticino region of Switzerland and the Alps in the background.
The hotel is very nice and located right on the lakefront. Given our late arrival coupled with Cannobio’s small size (~5k inhabitants), we were limited in our dinner options and decided to eat at the hotel restaurant.
Tomorrow we plan to visit Cannobio for a bit before heading south to the Borromean Islands via Stresa.
