Churrascaria

Thus far, my visit has been hampered by the realities of work and I haven’t been able to take in much of the local culture. The closest that I’ve come was lunch at a churrascaria – effectively an all-you-can-eat Brazilian BBQ steakhouse in which the waiters walk around with machetes and chunks of meat on massive skewers.

And like the salesmen in the bazaars of Istanbul, you can’t turn you head for a second without one of them approaching you with a new offering to sample. As a whole it was fantastic, though I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t prepared to accept the foregone conclusion of a massive food coma.

The best part was the means through which you let the waiters know whether you want more food or not – a sign on the table that rotated. Green for “yes, please” and red for “no thanks.”

I also liked the pillowcase-like covers that they put over your jacket so the waiters wouldn’t drip grease all over it.
