Last night Emilie and I had dinner at a restaurant near the Lausanne Cathedral called L’Elephant Blanc (I won’t insult you with a translation…). After reading some favorable reviews about it on the Internet, I’d been meaning to give it a try and the opportunity finally presented itself.
The restaurant was very tiny and in a way provided the feeling of being a guest for dinner in someone’s house. We were actually lucky to get a table as we didn’t have a reservation. Fortunately we showed up late enough that one of the tables was opening up just as we arrived.
I’m not sure if it’s true, but I’ve heard that the restaurant is run by a husband and wife – the husband handling the chef duties while the wife handles the service. This is consistent with what we saw.
I decided to get a steak and it was possibly one of the best cooked steaks that I’ve had since my arrival in Switzerland. The restaurant wasn’t pricy by any means (particularly by Swiss dining standards), yet the quality was definitely very high. It seems that they make the most out of their somewhat limited menu by serving very well prepared food.
