A step towards fluency?

I’ve heard before that you can tell you’re truly picking up a language when you actually dream in that language. Given that I typically don’t remember my dreams, I’m not sure whether I’m necessarily making progress in that regard. However, I’ve noticed another recent trend that I’m hoping is also an indicator of increased French proficiency – swearing in French.

It seems that more and more often I’m subconsciously skewing towards French cuss words whenever something happens that merits an obscenity. One problem is that unlike with English cuss words, French ones don’t sound bad or vulgar to me since they’re effectively just new words that I’ve learned like any other. Thus, I’m much more likely to use them when I shouldn’t. That can’t be good…
