Moscow - Day I (III)

.
For dinner we ate at Pushkin, which I’d been told is an authentic Russian restaurant. The ambiance and food were great (I chose the Beef Stroganoff) and it turned out to be a perfect choice for dinner.

Emilie ordered some caviar, but apparently the legal variety is from elsewhere as Russian caviar is officially banned. That said, you can apparently get the real – albeit black market – stuff at restaurants quite easily. You just have to know how to ask…

For the main course Emilie chose the Chicken Kiev while I went with the Beef Stroganoff. Both were very good (though mine looks a bit less appetizing in retrospect).

And here are the desserts. Emilie chose some type of dumpling, while I'm not quite sure what mine was.

One part of the dinner was particularly memorable – when the waiter served the water, it was as if he were serving a bottle of wine. First, he presented you the bottle so you could confirm your choice and then he poured a bit for you to taste in order to make sure it met your approval.

After dinner we walked back to Red Square to take some night pictures and it was very impressive.
