Barcelona - Day II

On Saturday we spent most of the day sightseeing, beginning with the Plaza Real and the Barri Gotic (gothic quarter).

We then headed over to Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia. One of my friends described the Sagrada Familia as a “drip sandcastle” and I have to say that’s a fairly accurate representation from the outside. Overall, I was very impressed by it and particularly liked the views of the stained glass windows from the inside. Whenever it’s finished (supposedly sometime around 2025 or so), I definitely want to come back to see it.

After that we went to see of Gaudi’s other famous architecture, including the Gaudi apartments.

The evening turned out to be the highlight of the day as we had tickets to Verdi’s Il Trovatore at the Teatro Del Liceu opera house. The venue was amazing as can be seen from the photos and the performance was very impressive as well. Fortunately, each seat had a small monitor with subtitles so you could follow what was going on even if you didn’t speak Italian.
